Bingle Lifetime Guarantee

Below is a brief breakdown of a competitive pitch we won to do the latest Bingle TVC.
We decided from an early stage that we wanted to go back to Bingle's core values of
engineering excellence. So we decided to move away from creating the spot in 3D
and instead utilise one flowing live action shot. All assets were built from paper
and we used a remote controlled car for the movement. The whole TVC was one take
utilising Movi rig.

All elements were first illustrated for approval. We went through a couple of stages but
finally went with something with an Art Deco feel.

Once the illustrations were signed off they were created in 3D and then printed out on
paper ready to be cut and glued.

The team spent 9 days building all the assets. 4 cars and 2 bingle logos were built as
backups to all the crashing.

We were lucky enough to get the expert driving skills of Matt Leeming on the shoot day.
He hit his mark with precision every time on the 30 odd takes we did.

On the shoot day we made finishing touches to the assets and set. We rigged it all
up so things could be controlled by ropes and pulleys away from the set and out of
the way of the camera operators who were absolute machines on the day.

A great effort from all at Engine, GHO and Bingle!!

Style-frame pitch work

Recent pitch we worked on. The whole set was to be built from various textures and filmed stop motion.

Style Frame created by Lilian Darmono.

New Look

As part of our recent move to Surry Hills we went through a rebranding process. We decided
at an early stage to move away from our previous formal geometric mark towards a more crafted tactile approach. The mark echoes our ethos of collaboration through individual crafts in our respective disciplines.

Instead of printing our business card we created 3 different size ink stamps with the new logo. This allowed each person to have a slightly different feel to their cards while
still retaining the brand ethos.

Stay tuned as we roll out the new branding across all other platforms over the coming weeks

Check out some of the process stages below.

THINGS WE WISH WE DID

Check out the new channel we set up on our vimeo page. It's all those really cool videos that make us jealous that we didn't do it first. It is a collection of work that we love for our and your viewing pleasure.

Impermanence

This animation was a great opportunity to extend the 3d department's use of particle and procedural animation techniques. Titled Impermanence, the animation plays with the ever changing nature of reality, so particles and procedurals were a natural fit. The music is J. S. Bach's timeless piece Sinfonia.

Creation Bee - Updated

We updated bee animation so you could see his side and added some pollen particles on that interact with the bee and his movements. We also did some more work to the grade, and gave it a bit more time.
Hope you enjoy the update.

(Original Post)
A cool little in house animation we have been working on. We set ourselves the challenge of creating a photorealistic bee in an architectural environment. It all came together through studying the way bees move, their textures and finally some sweet character animation by Shaun.

Engine Web Banner - Shoot

The first in a series of new Engine web banners.
We decided to do a series of attention grabbing banners letting people know what it is we do best. Animated frame by frame by our epic 2d character animator Nick (ie: Cowboy #1)
Stay tuned for more.

The final showdown

And our reference cowboys Nick and Josh sorting out a disagreement in the studio.

Hollywood Girl

Getting in touch with our feminine sides.

Gruen Planet

Some of the stages of the build of a 3d futuristic environment, for a pitch on Gruen Planet. It was fun to set our minds to the possibilities of futuristic environments and what they would look like, even with a sinister motive.

Dubbo Film Festival

We were recently asked to animate existing assets for the Dubbo Film Festival TVC.
We used the DUIK plugin again and were very happy with the results for such a short
turn around job.

Animal Motion Test

Final TVC

Location Illustrations

We have been working on a project lately that has given us the opportunity to do dome nice illustrations with reference to the work of Riccardo Guasco. I really like the way that he uses intersecting lines to create structure between the resulting spaces, each having a designated colour from a limited palette. The simplification of form whilst conveying emotion has served as a real challenge.

Dancer - Motion Test

Here's a motion test where we used DUIK for the first time, a plugin for After Effects which lets you create IK bones for your characters. It was a lot of fun animating this guy, and we would definitely use the plugin again.

Inspirations Spring Paint Sale

Inspirations was a great hands on project, we got to use our woodworking and painting skills to create a transforming set able to be controlled in real time. It took 8 sets of hands all choreographed to precise timings to get the final continuous take. This was one of our favorite jobs so far. Here is some of what went into it.

Arvo Beer - You Spoke We Brewed You Decide

Phase two of the Perfect Lager Project saw the introduction of two lagers 34 and 51. After gathering all the data about the perfect lager moment, the brewers set to work and produced these two brews. Phase 2 helped us find out more about the characteristics of each brew and asked us to make our decision as to which one should stay.
